Tuesday Tip: Get nostalgic with your holiday marketing campaign

By Chloe Mark | November 2016

The holiday season is a time to bask in nostalgia. We go back to our traditions, seek out stories from the past, and fill our house and music playlists with "oldies but goodies." Although dwelling in the past isn't encouraged, reviewing it and understanding it is. Our Tuesday Tip: get a little nostalgic and learn from the holiday marketing campaigns of past.

Big Commerce published an extensive blog series, celebrating 150 years of holiday marketing campaigns. Each campaign has a chapter, 24 in total, which summarizes its purpose, strategy, the surrounding climate at the time, and why the campaign was so successful. Using this, Hubspot created the infographic that gets similarly nostalgic to track these stories, starting back in 1874. Follow along, uncovering the past and perhaps gleaning some ideas for your future.

A favorite of mine: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade back in 1924. It's so full of cheerful people and tradition that I didn't realize it was founded on a marketing initiative.
