Blog. News. Insights. No matter what you call that space on your website where you post new content, odds are you'd like it very much if more people read it, loved it and became leads because of it. Having an actual strategy is first and foremost the way to achieve those goals! But what exactly does that look like?

I found a wonderful blog post on just that topic. It's called 5 Steps to a Blog Growth Strategy: How We Grew the Canva Blog's Traffic by 226%.
A little background: Canva is a free design platform that designers and non-designers alike will find useful for making things like social media sharing images and social profile banners. Their design blog covers a wide range of topics, from beginner to advanced design.
Canva's Andrianes Pinatoan writes about how he created a strategy for the Canva blog that ended up being really successful. If you follow each of his 5 steps, I'm confident that you can increase your blog traffic, too.
His 5 steps are:
- Research your industry landscape - what gets written, and more importantly, what gets shared?
- Study up on your audience - what questions are they asking, where do they hang out online, what's their demographic? If you've created personas, those'll come in handy here!
- Determine your unique selling proposition - why should people read your blog? What will you be offering that's not like what's already out there?
- Implement your strategy - get your write and promotion on.
- Watch & recap. What's working, what's not? Are you writing great content but not getting found? Try paid promotion on Facebook, Twitter or other platform.

Note: Pinatoan references a tool called Topsy that no longer exists. Use the other tools he mentions instead!
