Tuesday Tidbit: An Update on Getting Reviews on Google

By Joli Skow | April 2016

Ah, the coveted Google review. If you're a local business with a listing on Google Maps, you know how important having Google reviews can be. When your listing comes up and there are those yellow stars along with it, that can be so compelling for a searcher to click on. Pay attention to the latest Google update to learn how getting a review is easier than it once was.

The process of getting someone to come review you on Google is already difficult. Suggesting a person leave you a review requires them to take the time to find your listing and write out their review.

Previously it was an even longer process, which caused many people not to leave a review at all. The reviewer would have to sign into their existing Google+ account, or create one.

Yes, a user would have to have a Google+ account to leave a review!

If you think about it, it makes sense - you need to be a real person with accountability to leave a review. But who on Earth keeps up a Google+ account??

Many people used to give up if they were asked to set up a new Google+ account. Such a disappointment, as it was a major hurdle for getting them to agree to leave a review in the first place.

Well, Google has decided that you no longer have to sign in to a Google+ account to leave a review! That makes the process much easier and efficient. You still have to sign in to a Google account, but with Gmail and YouTube accounts becoming widely used and easy to create, it's not as difficult to leave that review.
