Tuesday Tidbit: A lesson in customer delight on social media from Spotify

By Joli Skow | July 2016

Has anyone ever tweeted at your company? If yes, did you do anything other than "heart" or retweet that tweet?

Well, Spotify sure did. This week's Tidbit is dedicated to gawking at their social media strategy and gleaning a thing or two for your own.

What Spotify did that others don't:

Last week, @sophiakinbjerg tweeted @spotify about how much she loved using their service. Instead of saying, "aw, thanks!" they took the time to write her a message via a playlist, as seen below.

Results?

Granted, not every company has the digital marketing budget Spotify does, but we all have the ability to go above expectations and think outside the social media box. What took them 20 minutes resulted in commendable social media success.

The benefit for Spotify was undoubtedly big. Since posting this message to Sophia, it has been shared all over social media – as seen with the Twitter and LinkedIn posts below – and people have been inspired by the power of social media.

What else can we learn from Spotify's social media strategy?

They capitalize on every holiday they can, in creative ways:

They've established a way to matter to huge influencers in a method that benefits both parties:

They aren't afraid to make a statement:

They make 8 sec. videos (this image + copy did not require a video producer or large budget..) to promote an upcoming campaign:
