A first month's look at Darrell's marketing agency internship

Our intern Darrell has been with the team for about a month. He reflects on all he's learned about the web development and marketing realm, and better yet, about himself.

My first month here at ArcStone has become a true eye-opening experience, from helping to create a website, to sitting in on demo’s, and a personal favorite, working on QA. It’s allowed me to see a different part of the internet and how it can be used to create new opportunities for driven companies and individuals.

Being part of a team that both expects a lot from me and works to help me meet those expectations is unbelievable. Very few workplaces have both high standards plus the willingness to help their employees reach these goals.

Beyond just the inclusiveness in projects, I’ve also been invited to every company gathering that they have held since I started. This goes to show that hospitality is something that never lacks here at ArcStone. I may just be an intern but I don’t feel like it: I’m able to reach out to the team to receive help on projects and any other tasks. If I don’t know an answer, I feel comfortable asking what’s going on because I know I won’t be judged for asking.

I’ve also been able to add to my technical chops since I started. For example, learned quite a bit about Google Analytics. I haven’t mastered it by any means, but I recently received a task that involved me looking into the data of a website and creating a report of the information. Applying new skills right after first learning them is the best way I grow. This shows me how much of what I learned I’ve truly understood and will be able to use down the road.

Lastly, through having this internship, I’m learning a lot about my own work ethic. It’s important to be self-motivated and to reach for what you want. I’m not always going to be supervised on the work that I am doing so it’s up to me to stay focused and on task.

I truly believe that this opportunity has so far been and will continue to be a defining moment in my life.
