Have you grown tired of the same old two-dimensional web browsing? If so, this should really pique your interest. If not, I think you’ll be equally impressed.

Literally. By admin | December 2007 - [Tweet](https://twitter.com/share) Have you grown tired of the same old two-dimensional web browsing? If so, this should really pique your interest. If not, I think you’ll be equally impressed. I had the opportunity to check out the [Adobe AIR Bus Tour](http://onair.adobe.com/) when it stopped in Minneapolis. My jaw was dropped the etire time by the potential of this new technology. [Adobe AIR](http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/air/) is one of several hot topics in web application development. AIR (short for Adobe Integrated Runtime and previously referred to as Apollo), is a cross-operating system [runtime](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runtime_environment) that allows developers to use their existing web skills to build applications that can deploy just like any other desktop application (Photoshop, MS Word, iTunes, Solitaire). These applications can be created using Flash, Flex, HTML and AJAX, or all of the above. As an example and proof that it is truly and *Integrated* runtime, [Lee Brimlow](http://theflashblog.com/), a Flash, Flex and AIR guru for Adobe, has an created a [fully interactive 3D Browsing experience](http://theflashblog.com/?p=300). (Not the most practical application, but a fantastic showcase of the potential of AIR). In order to run the application from your desktop, you will need to [download the AIR application installer](http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/air.html). The photos below really don’t compare to experiencing it for yourself. (On a less exciting note, the background photo was taken at [Bluefin Bay Resort](http://www.bluefinbay.com/) on December 2nd, and is available as desktop wallpaper, upon request!) First, lets pull up a search engine, how about [Yahoo!](http://www.yahoo.com/): [![AIR 3D Browser 1](http://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/320867/file-2235384154-jpg/blog-files/air1.jpg?width=450&name=air1.jpg)](http://www.technologytranslated.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/air1.jpg) … and fill out the search field… [![AIR 3D Browser 2](https://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/320867/file-2235384174-jpg/blog-files/air2.jpg?width=450&name=air2.jpg)](http://www.technologytranslated.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/air2.jpg) … up come our results… [![AIR 3D Browser 3](https://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/320867/file-2235384214-jpg/blog-files/air3.jpg?width=450&name=air3.jpg)](http://www.technologytranslated.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/air3.jpg) …we’ll click on the first link… [![AIR 3D Browser 4](https://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/320867/file-2235384234-jpg/blog-files/air4.jpg?width=450&name=air4.jpg)](http://www.technologytranslated.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/air4.jpg) … and our new page begins to load… [![AIR 3D Browser 5](https://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/320867/file-2235384259-jpg/blog-files/air5.jpg?width=450&name=air5.jpg)](http://www.technologytranslated.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/air5.jpg) … why don’t we check out the ‘About Us’ section… [![AIR 3D Browser 6](https://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/320867/file-2235384274-jpg/blog-files/air6.jpg?width=450&name=air6.jpg)](http://www.technologytranslated.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/air6.jpg) Service.
